How Brynne Billingsley is Redefining What It Means to Grow a Wellness Brand with Progressive Pilates Williamsburg
It all started when I began serious dance training relatively late for a dancer at sixteen. I felt behind and knew I had a tremendous amount to learn quickly if I wanted to pursue dance professionally. Because I didn’t live in the correct school district to attend the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts for free, my family used my great-grandmother’s address in the Lower Ninth Ward.
One teacher in particular, Valerie Concha, had a profound impact on me. At the end of my first year, she wrote me a letter explaining that other teachers might not lead with the same positive reinforcement and kindness that she did, but that I shouldn’t allow that to discourage me.
Her kindness stayed with me and ultimately shaped the kind of environment I wanted to create for others. This combined with the “outsider energy” I’ve carried since childhood, ultimately shaped my vision for Progressive Pilates Williamsburg: a space that feels inclusive, healing, intelligent, and beautiful.
With Progressive Pilates Williamsburg I’ve intentionally stayed small and focused in order to maintain quality and depth. In many industries, growth is often prioritized above all else, sometimes at the expense of client experience and actual results.
Instead of investing in multiple studio locations, I invested in myself. I immersed myself in advanced movement education and somatic healing work, pursuing graduate studies and certifications across neuro-somatic healing, yoga, meditation, and bodywork modalities.
I also hire practitioners who share devotion to mastery and ongoing learning. Clients can feel that level of care and commitment. One of the ways we differ from many fast-growing fitness models is in our approach to instructor education. As Pilates becomes increasingly commercialized, we ensure instructors complete comprehensive training across all major Pilates apparatus, not just the Reformer. That level of training creates a safer, more transformational experience for clients while preserving integrity of the work itself.
I am genuinely excited about the growing integration of strength training with intelligent, alignment-centered movement practices like Pilates. We’re embracing that approach more in our studio now, and it’s incredibly effective for helping clients build both strength and mobility. Combining thoughtful weight training with our Pilates method can be transformative.
Ultimately, I’ve learned to lean into my outsider energy rather than resist it. It keeps me anchored in what feels meaningful and sustainable, rather than whatever is currently popular and that has made a world of difference.
